Our greenkeeping team has been hard at work rejuvenating and old water hazard to the right of the par-five 3rd green. Since the hazard doesn’t really come into play, and having become densely overgrown, it is possible that many golfers were not even aware that it is there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, old Google Maps images show that the lake was once an important ecological feature on the golf course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The maintenance team, led by leading hand Isaac Brophy, and under the supervision of course superintendent Ben Eddy, have worked incredibly hard to remove all invasive suckers from the lake edge and interior. The result is that the area has been opened up, not only restoring the lake to it’s previous glory, but also improving the area for local wildlife. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have also installed a fill pipe that will ensure the lake remains at a healthy level all year round, we have re-mulched the entire surround of the lake (approx. 40m3 <\/sup>) and we have begun edging the mulched area with larger tree logs to define the edge of the habitat zone. It\u2019s been a massive team effort \u2013 and we are delighted with the results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next time you’re heading up to the 4th green (or standing on the 7th tee) – take a look to the right and admire some of the hard work being done by our greens team to make Whaleback even more beautiful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
