The difficulty level of sand bunkers at Whaleback Golf Course is levelling up, and it starts with our latest project on the par-four 5th green. <\/strong>Our greenkeeping team has been hard at work rejuvenating the bunker, giving it a full refresh and a serious upgrade that players will definitely notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whaleback Golf Course has historically used quartz sand, but this is where we’re levelling up the difficulty. The team have removed about 10 cubic metres of old quartz sand and replaced it with fresh, fluffy, lime sand trucked in from a quarry in Lancelin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Golf without bunkers and hazards would be tame and monotonous. So would life. – B.C.Forbes<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Quartz sand firms up in the face meaning there’s less chance of balls plugging in, but the fresh lime sand of the rejuvenated bunker has a soft fluffy base, making it more difficult to shoot out of the bunker. It’s the ideal sand for bunkers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team have also made it a bigger target, cutting approximately 2 metres of turf on the back side of the bunker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the next time you\u2019re heading up the 5th green feel free to admire some of the hard work being done by our greens team, but don’t stray too close or you might spend your next three shots trying to get out of the sandpit of shattered confidence!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warm up that sand wedge… the next sand bunker rejuvenation is planned for the eighth\u2011hole!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
